Third Student Congress: Forge ahead with Fortitude and Endeavor to Create a Brighter Future

The Third Student Congress of Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) was held in No. 1 Lecture Hall on October 27. President Hu Shejun, CPC Committee Secretary Huang Shengcheng, Deputy Secretary and Vice President Xiao Hai, Wei Dongting, Director of the University Board Office, heads of departments of CPC and administrative organs, secretaries of the CPC Branches and Youth League Committees of the schools, members of the Presidium of the Student Congress and all members of the Student Work Office and 212 student representatives attended the conference.

The first plenary session of the Student Congress officially began with the solemn national anthem. Yang Zhiliang, Director of the CPC Committee Office, read the approval letter of the University CPC Committee. Peng Wengang, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, read the approval of the Provincial Federation of Student Unions. Wei Dongting, Director of the University Board Office, read the congratulatory letter of the Board.

Liu Jiawei, Executive Chairman of the Student Union, made a work report “Strive on the New Journey and Contribute in the New Era”.

President Hu Shejun delivered an address “Forge ahead with Fortitude and Endeavor to Create a Brighter Future for Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology”. Since the Second Student Congress in November 2021, under the leadership of the University CPC Committee, the Student Union has promoted self-education, self-management, self-service and self-supervision based on ideological guidance, growth services, rights and interests protection as well as carried out effective work and promoted the growth of students and development of our university. President Hu hoped that the new Student Union would mobilize all students to study the Spirit of the CPC 20th National Congress. To take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era as guidance, the Student Union is also expected to comprehensively strengthen its construction, gather the strengths of all students, and strive to write a new chapter in the development of our university.

Many requirements were put forward for the future development of the Student Union. First, it is necessary to strengthen political guidance. To be specific, students must study, publicize, and implement the Spirit of the CPC 20th National Congress. Second, it is necessary to strengthen the construction of the student organization system under the CPC leadership, consolidate the Youth League Committee management of all levels of the Student Union and student associations. Third, we must implement the reform proposed by the National Student Union and serve all students wholeheartedly. Fourth, it is necessary to strengthen the construction of study style and university spirit; Fifth, unremitting efforts must be made to prevent and control the pandemic. Secretary Huang Shengcheng hoped in his address that the Student Union would play its role as a bridge and link, become a good assistant to the Youth League Committee, and make due contributions to building a civilized campus and form excellent university spirit and study style. First, the Union must conscientiously study the Spirit of the CPC 20th National Congress and arm all members’ minds with its scientific theories. It is also necessary to profoundly understand the rich connotation, great significance of the CPC 20th National Congress. In addition, it is also essential to comprehend the new goals and tasks set forth at the CPC 20th National Congress and forge ahead in the new era.

Second, student organizations at all levels should be united and dedicated to serve students, focusing on serving the development of the university and the cultivation of talents. It is also required to expand work fields, innovate work methods, and improve service capabilities in leading students’ ideological and political construction, organizing social practice, prospering campus culture, safeguarding students’ rights and interests, and strengthening their own construction.

Third, it is a must to carry forward the great spirit of CPC founding and be the vanguard force in the new era. Students must stay true to the original aspiration, and work hard to be make contributions to social development.

The outstanding students, work activists and excellent volunteers were also awarded on the congress.
