Opening Ceremony for Postgraduate Co-supervision

On the morning of September 7, GZIST held the opening ceremony for postgraduate co-supervision enrollment of class 2022. The University is among the first few private higher learning institutions to be approved of offering postgraduate co-supervision.

Leaders and representatives from Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University: President Dai Qingyun,, Xu Guangwei, Director of the President’s Office, Chen Yongzhu, Dean of the Graduate School, Cai Jun, Dean of Cyberspace Security College, Li Ya, Deputy Dean of School of Electronic Information, Ding Yanhong, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School. GZIST’s President Hu Shejun, CPC Committee Secretary Huang Shengcheng, as well as representatives and postgraduate students of class 2022 and undergraduates were also present at the ceremony, presided over by Vice President Zhang Shimei.

The first cohort of co-supervised postgraduates include five students, with four students majoring in electronic information and 1 in business administration. On behalf of GZIST, Executive Vice President Fu Huanchang awarded them a scholarship of 5,000 yuan per person.

Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University has for a long time supported the construction and development of our university. They will continue their support in postgraduate co-supervision in the future, promoting our high-quality education.. President Dai emphasized in her speech that we should adhere to the spirit of CPC founding while pursuing further development. We ought to promote deeper cooperation in Master’s degree projects, postgraduate training and construction of disciplines and majors. We also need to guarantee the quality of postgraduate students and create a distinctive brand of postgraduate co-supervision.

President Hu called on the postgraduate students to be firm in their ideals and beliefs and aspire to be knowledgeable serving our country. He said that the students should choose their own development path based on the reality of Guangdong, Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University and Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology. He also hoped that they can be clear about their own goals, strive to make key breakthroughs, and become leaders in their own fields. He required colleagues from the departments and the postgraduate tutors to work closely, clear all difficulties in study and provide support in life for our graduate students in a timely manner. Finally, he asked all teachers to adhere to the code of ethics and guide their students to a road of all-round development.

Professor Chen Chuixin, one of the co-supervisors, delivered a speech on behalf of all the supervisors encouraging the students to blaze new trails and move forward courageously. Liu Hongming, representing the new postgraduate students, gave a talk, too.

Embarking on a New Journey Toward Postgraduate Co-supervision in Private Higher Learning Institutions in Guangdong

On April 2, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province issued the Notice on the 2022 Enrollment Plan for Postgraduate Co-supervision, launching the special project for postgraduate co-supervision which expanded the in-depth development of the approved institutions for postgraduate education in Guangdong catering to the strategic needs of the country and Guangdong while gathering nba下注平台 experience in turning out postgraduates. Of the eight private higher learning institutions listed as feasible units for postgraduate cultivation in 2021, three (including GZIST) are among the first to obtain approval for enrolling new students. In 2022, postgraduate co-supervision in Guangdong includes 5 projects: co-supervision through integration of industry and education, through integration of science and education, by institutional units having run postgraduate programs, by institutional units of the Greater Bay Area and by new higher learning institutions upon approval.

GZIST Listed in First Cohort of Institutional Units for Postgraduate Programs Granted to Private Higher Learning Institutions

In May 2021, Guangdong Provincial Academic Degrees Committee issued the Notice on the Adjustment of Institutional Units for Doctoral and Master Degree Awarding in Guangdong. GZIST has become one of the first batch of private higher learning institutions to be listed as institutional unit for postgraduate programs, and the majors including electronic information, civil engineering and water resources, and business administration and.

According to the plan, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, GZIST will complete construction of a new campus in Boluo County, Huizhou, targeting at boosting its own development in the construction of a graduate admissions unit and excellent disciplines and majors. Since 2018, GZIST has carried out postgraduate co-supervision projects with China Three Gorges University and South China University of Technology. In March this year, our school was approved to enroll co-supervised postgraduate students and signed an agreement on postgraduate co-supervision with Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. After that, GZIST also formulated the Plan of the Institutional Unit for Masters Programs and the details for implementation, deciding on the three postgraduate majors: electronic information, civil engineering and water resources, business administration and other professional fields, among which accounting and translation are noted as key majors.
