On September 9th and 10th, GZIST’s new campus in Boluo, Huizhou City welcomed the first cohort of over 6000 freshmen accompanied by parents, relatives and friends. They come from 10 provinces and regions and study 18 engineering related programs such as electrical engineering and automation, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as 19 other programs in economics, management, arts, education, etc. Those from the local city Huizhou, over 700, outnumber the exam candidates from Guangzhou and Foshan cities.

“When my son was to fill in his college application, we came to the campus twice, we found it so beautiful, and GZIST’s civil engineering is his favourite subject,” a parent said. “Last summer, GZIST volunteers came to my village Beidi and repaired our electrical appliances for free. My Gaokao (University Entrance Exam) score stood within the GZIST range, so I filled in my application to GZIST as the first place without hesitation,” a student Zhong said.

In June 2020, Ministry of Education (MOE) issued its approval to Guangdong Province People’s Government for the transfer setup of Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) and the construction of Huizhou Campus by GZIST for the Education Strengthens Nation Strategy and the needs of Guangdong-Hongkong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA). As Huizhou is closely connected with Dongguan and Shenzhen, GBA’s focal area, the new campus focuses on engineering disciplines and positions itself as a center developing hands-on talents for the region.

GZIST’s Executive Vice President Fu Huanchang told the media that the University aspires to enhance such disciplines, majors, research institutes, industrial parks as intelligent manufacture, artificial intelligence, informatics, telecommunications, photoelectron, green energy automobile as well as humanities, social sciences and wellness.
