On April 17, GZIST School of Humanities and Education held a Flower Worship Festival, China’s age-old tradition which carries the people’s longing for a better life and awe for nature. The Festival began with the students from the School dancing for the prayer of the Flower Gods,as if they were fairies descending on earth. The MC, dressed in Han costume, presided over the altar ceremony in a solemn voice. The Priest, standing aside, read out the script of blessings. The 12 Flower Gods, walked slowly to the center, holding flowers in splendid costumes, making three kowtows elegantly.Afterwards, the Priest performed the services of cleansing, incense, lamb and liquor offerings. He then dotted the Flower Gods with a brush for invocation and blessings for Spring.
When the ceremony was over, the offerings were shared by the other students in the audience. The Festival is a great opportunity for the School students to appreciate the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
